The Forgotten Cloning Debate

Long, long ago, before the events of September 11th eclipsed all national issues other than terrorism, public policy pundits had seen fit to focus some of their attention on whether or not Congress should ban research into cloning.

Several prominent conservative intellectuals, including William Kristol and Francis Fukuyama, circulated a draft petition supporting such a ban, joining together with leftist environmentalist Jeremy Rifkin in this cause. To counter this petition, Virginia Postrel, editor-at-large of Reason Magazine, solicited contrary views, including my own.

This collection of responses has now been published on the Reason web site, available through the following link: http://www.reason.com/bioresearch/bioresearch.html

Here’s my own contribution to that almost forgotten debate.
