Fox News Debate

Here’s the transcript of Monday’s Fox News debate on the forthcoming English for the Children initiative in Arizona, in which I participated. The facts revealed in the initial set-up piece were especially supportive.

During the California campaign, the strongest argument made by the opposition was that Prop. 227 was overly sweeping, a drastic and risky educational change which would harm the academic performance of immigrant students. Now that the outstanding test scores from post-227 California have deflated this argument, pro-bilingual advocates in Arizona seem to be grasping at straws—attacking the proposal on the grounds that a Californian such as myself as no business supporting an educational effort in Arizona.

I doubt this will be a very effective argument.
